No Medieval Intruders
Joy and surprise from seeing the wall, subverting what is expected to be in a dorm room
The current solution…no one is getting joy from this.

Overview
The need was to have a room divider, but I wanted one that added to the room’s decoration rather than subtract - One that transports to another world

Problem
I share a room with a roommate who has to regularly cross through my room, resulting in limited privacy.
Previous students in this situation have put up a curtain. More generally, to solve the problem of room division, people have bought a divider as shown to the left. However this majorly detracts from the room’s aesthetic. I wanted to use this opportunity to create a magical experience for those interacting with my room.
I built this divider part way through the year, and enjoyed 6 months of friends/guests coming over and playing with the peep hole or medieval knocker.
I made the wall with the intention of it being interacted with up close, rather than just being seen from afar like a stage set. I put a lot of effort into making the texture of the wall 3D with the cracks and ridges in the stone, so that it felt a bit more realistic and fun to touch.
